Why Choose Grantville?

Grantville Historic District (National Register, 1991)
Railroad town on the 1852 Atlanta & LaGrange line
U.S. 29 runs through the historic district
Many older wood-framed houses built from the 1850s to the 1940s

The National Register nomination for the Grantville Historic District counts 225 contributing buildings in an area bounded by U.S. 29, LaGrange Street, West Grantville Road and the city cemetery. It covers the town's commercial, residential, industrial and railroad buildings from 1852 to the early 1940s, including one- and two-story brick storefronts, a former railroad hotel, an early-1900s movie theater and textile mill buildings.

The same nomination says most of the district's buildings are one- or two-story wood-framed single-family houses, many with decorative millwork made by the R. D. Cole Manufacturing Company in nearby Newnan.

Buying an older Grantville house? Plan the inspection around its age: wiring, plumbing, the roof, the foundation and wood rot are the usual questions in a house built between the 1850s and the 1940s. The National Park Service says National Register listing by itself places no federal restrictions on a private owner using private funds, but state or local rules can apply, so ask the City of Grantville before you plan exterior changes.

About 3,251 people live in Grantville (margin of error ±39), on about 5.9 square miles of land, about 43 miles (straight line) from downtown Atlanta. Survey margins are wide for a place this small, so treat the population as a rough size.Sources: U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024 5-year estimates, table B01003; 2024 Census Gazetteer.
